Pflugerville was founded in 1860, just before the civil war, when Williams Bohls established a post office and a general store in his home. Pflugerville is named in honor of Henry Pfluger , a German immigrant who was lured to the Austin area by relatives in 1849. The area was a sage grass prairie roamed by buffaloe and Indians.

Otto later added an ice factory and H.H. Pfluger added a theater in 1913. By 1914 the areas population was 500! Growth was halted by the great depression and world war II and the city did not grow again until the 1960's. By 1980 the population was just 662!
