There are a lot of creative ways to save for a down payment on a house that you may not have ever thought about before. There are five that I wanted to share with you today:

        1. Crowdsourcing. You can visit Feather the Nest to help fund your down payment.
        2. Get money from the seller. Not many people know this, but a seller is allowed to contribute money for the buyer’s down payment. In this case, 3% to 5% is pretty standard, but you can go as high as 6% sometimes.
        3. Government options. FHA, VA, and USDA loans all have options to let you buy a house with zero down payment.
        4. Employer-assisted housing programs. In Texas, people can get help getting their first home through these employer-assisted programs.
        5. Lender programs through a bank. Many banks nowadays offer programs to assist buyers with their down payment.

“Many loan programs let you buy a home with zero money down.”

I hope I’ve opened your eyes to some creative new ways to make a down payment on a house. If you’d like more details on any of these options or you’re thinking of buying or selling a home in Austin, give me a call or send me an email. I look forward to hearing from you!
