Did you know that the history surrounding Stone Canyon is quite amazing. I don’t know all of the details but I imagine that the Tankawa Indians used to spend alot of time along Brushy Creek hunting (they were not farmers at all). After the war with Mexico I believe most of the land in the area was deeded to folks who served in the war. Obviously the Avery clan got a big piece of the area. As the area started to be settled, there was quite a few stage coaches that went through and of course we had some outlaws. Cattle passed through here as the value up north exceeded the value on Texas. Floods along Brushy Creek were always a problem. Many folks used to spend their Sundays fishing and swimming in the creek.
